Live music, by the size of the room

Live music in Baltimore tonight, sorted by the size of the room: a Fells Point pub with a band every night, free jams in Hampden, two jazz listening rooms, the standing clubs and the symphony hall. Smallest first, because the small rooms are the ones people miss.
Updated Sep 28, 2026 · each stop says the day its sources were read, and what they left unconfirmed
The band matters less than you think. What decides a night of music in Baltimore is the room: a pub where the blues band has no stage worth the name, a basement with a Monday jam that goes back to 2012, a townhouse where the audience sits still, or a floor with a thousand people standing on it. The city has every size, and each one is a different night out.
So this runs smallest first, because the small rooms are the ones people miss. Start in the bars and basements that cost little or nothing, sit down for jazz on Charles Street and in Harbor East, stand up in the clubs in Federal Hill and Remington, and finish in the rooms the touring bands and the orchestra fill. Decide which night you want, then pick the band.
Before you go
- The small end runs on a weekday rota: the Bluebird's basement has music Monday to Thursday only, the Session at Avenue Kitchen & Bar is Wednesday evenings, and Keystone Korner is closed on Monday.
- Keystone's free Bright Moments jam is on select Tuesdays at 7pm, not every week. Its calendar has 29 September and 6 and 20 October, and nothing later yet.
- The 8x10 went dark for the summer and reopens in October 2026. Buy for a specific show rather than walking up, and expect 18+.
- Driving to Ottobar, stay out of the gated lots beside it: they belong to the Miller's Court residents, close at 5pm and tow. Use the street or the metered lot on 26th Street between Maryland and Charles.
- An die Musik is on the second floor of a townhouse and says it is not wheelchair accessible. The Meyerhoff is, with companion seating and accessible garage parking, and wants two weeks' notice for accommodations.

Fells Point · Music · $
Cat's Eye Pub
Start at the smallest scale, in a Fells Point bar that opened on the waterfront in 1975 and never went upscale. There is no stage worth the name, the ceiling is hung with flags from visiting sailors, and the regulars are real. The pub counts bands seven nights a week, 365 days a year, leaning blues, zydeco, jazz and Irish, generally with no cover. So walk in, get a drink and stand close. At the weekend the sets start at noon, which makes this an afternoon as well as a night.

Hampden · Music · $
Avenue Kitchen & Bar
Same scale, other end of it: on a Wednesday evening this bar on The Avenue in Hampden is whoever turned up with an instrument. The Session is the jam Clarence Ward III has run for the best part of a decade, and the one Baltimore's own players treat as the standing weekly, which is the reason to come: you are hearing the scene play for itself. No cover, but tip the band. The start is published as both six and seven, so be there by six. Ward runs the Monday jam at Motor House too.

Not confirmed: Everything the bar would normally state itself: its own opening hours, food, age policy and access. The Jazz Alliance gives the session as 7pm to 10pm on the page and 6pm to 9pm in that page's own web address, so the hour is worth checking before a special trip
Hours: Not published by the venue in a form we could read. The Session runs Wednesday evenings. · full listing

Hampden · Music · $$
The Bluebird
Stay in Hampden and go downstairs. The Bluebird is a cocktail room on Hickory Avenue, but the reason to know it is the basement underneath: candlelit, brick and small, with music Monday to Thursday. The Monday Django jazz jam has met every week since 2012, and Tuesdays alternate between old time and bluegrass jams, all free and all ages. Wednesday and Thursday belong to the Baltimore Jazz Underground at $10, and the bar says every dollar goes to the musicians. On the last Wednesday of the month, traditional Irish music takes the jazz's place.

Not confirmed: The Tuesday finish. The venue's Hours page gives the Tuesday jam as 7pm to 11pm while its Pub page runs the old time jam to 10pm and the bluegrass jam to 10pm, so the two disagree. The times of the Irish Music School night, which the Pub page does not give. Access, and the Cocktail Room's age policy

An die Musik LIVE!
Same size as the Fells Point pub, and its opposite in every other way. An die Musik is a listening room on the second floor of a townhouse at 409 North Charles Street, run for more than 35 years and built around the music rather than a bar: jazz and classical, and an audience that sits still. Bookings mix Peabody students and rising players with national jazz names, and general admission typically runs $20 to $35. It is shows only, so pick the show first. The venue says it is not wheelchair accessible, and streams every concert instead.

Harbor East · Music · $$
Keystone Korner Baltimore
The other room to sit and listen in is Keystone Korner, a jazz room with a kitchen on Lancaster Street in Harbor East, carrying the name of the San Francisco club. It runs like a listening room, not a bar with a band in the corner: doors a couple of hours ahead, two sets most nights, and the room turns for the second, so book your set and eat before it. The one to know is Bright Moments, Obasi Akoto's free jam on select Tuesdays at 7pm. Friday and Saturday add a late night, 11 to 2.

The 8x10
Now stand up. The 8x10 is Federal Hill's small live room, and it nearly went: it was set to close for good in June 2026, until the promoter Rising Sun Presents bought it with the Baltimore musician Cris Jacobs. It went dark for the summer, and the fall is already on sale: Open Mike Eagle on 14 October, two Dan Deacon nights on 14 and 15 November, Rebirth Brass Band on 11 December. Plan the night around a show rather than walking up, and expect 18+.

Ottobar
Head north to Remington for the loud half of this city's music. Ottobar has been putting it on since 1997, two floors of it on North Howard Street, and nearly thirty years of shows is the case for going. Door times and ages move with the show, so the ticket is the plan. Above all, stay out of the gated lots beside it, which belong to the Miller's Court residents, shut at 5pm and tow. Park on the street or in the metered lot on 26th Street, or bike or get a ride, as the venue asks.

Baltimore Soundstage
Down on Market Place, by the Inner Harbor, the scale jumps. Baltimore Soundstage holds a thousand standing or five hundred seated, which puts it between the club rooms and the arena and makes it the size most touring bands play here. It opens on event nights only and doors move with the show, so the ticket is the timetable. The same people run Nevermore Hall around the corner, and between the two rooms they cover most of a week.

Nevermore Hall
Around the corner is the room that was Rams Head Live for twenty years. It closed at the end of 2024 and came back in August 2025 as Nevermore Hall, run by the Soundstage people, so the two Market Place rooms now work as a pair. It sits inside the Power Plant Live block, which matters when you are reading a ticket: several of the nights on this site listed under Power Plant Live are actually in here. Event nights only, with doors set by the show.

BSO at the Meyerhoff
Finish at the top of the scale, and a different kind of night: the Baltimore Symphony's home hall on Cathedral Street, at the northern edge of Mount Vernon. The fall 2026 calendar is broader than subscription classical, with a Stravinsky and Prokofiev program next to a Samara Joy gala and a symphonic Taylor Swift night, so a group can pick a lane and plan the whole evening around it. It is wheelchair accessible with companion seating; ask for accommodations two weeks ahead. Park in the Symphony Center Garage across the street, cheaper booked ahead than the $15 on the day.
