Oysters, and when they are cheap

Dollar oysters on a Saturday in Fells Point, $2 oysters at a weekday happy hour, and two Canton raw bars for when you want the room more than the deal: where to eat oysters in Baltimore, and when they are cheap.

Updated Sep 28, 2026 · each stop says the day its sources were read, and what they left unconfirmed

This is for anyone who wants a dozen oysters in Baltimore without paying full price for every one, and for anyone who just wants a raw bar and a stool. There are four places: two on the same block of Thames Street in Fells Point, and two a few streets apart in Canton, east along the water. Between them they cover a dollar oyster night, a $2 happy hour, and two Canton corners you go to for the room.

The order is the deal. First a dollar, then two, then a happy hour at a price the bar keeps to itself, then no deal at all, only the room. On a Saturday, pair the first two: dollar oysters at Sláinte, then dinner a few doors along. On a weekday afternoon, pick your side of the water and get there before six.

Before you go

  • The dollar oysters are a Saturday thing at Sláinte, and neither it nor Kooper's Tavern next door publishes the special or its hours: it runs off a banner in the window.
  • Both happy hours are weekdays only and both end at 6pm: Thames Street from 4:30, Mama's from 3, at the first-floor bar only.
  • Thames Street books through Resy and fills from well beyond Fells Point, so reserve. Lee's takes no reservations at all, so just turn up.
  • Canton has no public garage: park on the street around O'Donnell Square, or take a rideshare, which Lee's itself suggests for the ride home.

    Sláinte Irish Pub

The dollar oyster. On Saturdays Sláinte runs Buck-A-Shuck with Kooper's Tavern next door, and neither pub publishes it: there is a banner in the window and that is all, so the weekly pattern is the room's habit rather than a posted promise, and we hold no start time for it. The pub itself is an Irish one on the Broadway corner that opens at 7am every day, which almost nothing else in Fells Point does, and pours until midnight. Eat a dozen here, then walk a few doors along Thames Street for dinner.

Not confirmed: The pub does not publish the oyster night. The banner is up and the special was running on a Saturday, so the weekly pattern is what the room says rather than what the site says.

    Thames Street Oyster House

The most serious raw bar of the four. This is the neighborhood's seafood room and the usual answer to where a Fells Point night starts, and the Baltimore Banner counts its raw bar among the city's most extensive. The $2 local oysters are a weekday happy hour, 4:30 to 6pm, so at that price it is an early stop after work rather than a whole night. It draws well beyond the neighborhood, so book on Resy instead of strolling in. On a Saturday, come after Sláinte's dollar dozen and eat properly at full price.

    Mama's on the Half Shell

Then east along the water to Canton, where the green-awninged oyster house holds down the corner of O'Donnell Square. When the founding family closed Nacho Mama's across the street in January 2025, this is the one they kept. People come for the raw bar and the crab cakes. Happy hour is 3 to 6pm on weekdays, at the first-floor bar only, and the oyster price is not published, so come for the hour rather than a number. On weekends the doors open at 9am for brunch, which makes it a starting line as much as a dinner.

    Lee's Pint and Shell

Last, the one you go to for the room rather than the price. Lee's is a corner oyster tavern at Hudson and Linwood, a few streets from O'Donnell Square, named in tribute to Lee Carey and built around a raw bar, rotating local drafts and a serious bourbon shelf, and it would rather pour you an oyster shooter than set a white tablecloth. There is no published oyster deal and no reservations, which tells you the register: show up and grab the bar. The kitchen runs to 10pm Wednesday to Saturday and 9pm otherwise.
