City Scouts

Ten to twenty

We rely on you for your experience and your honest opinion. You are the expert people count on to find their first best experience of Baltimore.

The job is not to leave star ratings. It is to tell us what Baltimore needs to know about.

What you get

Your name on it

A byline on any guide or listing you shape, linked to a profile that is yours.

Publish your own lists

Not star ratings. A list with a point of view, under your name.

A say in what gets built

Scouts see features before anyone else and get asked first when something is undecided.

An invitation

To whatever City Emprise runs, and to the editorial projects worth doing together.

Who we are looking for

Not influencers. Followers are not the qualification and we do not ask for a number. The qualification is knowing a corner of this city well enough that your recommendations keep turning out to be right, whether that corner is live music, accessibility, comedy, or the businesses that never show up in a listicle.

One rule holds for scouts exactly as it holds for everything else here: a venue cannot buy a place in a guide, and it cannot buy a scout either. If somewhere you love is on this site, it is because it earned the check, and the same will be true of anything you put forward.

When you post, it gets counted

Register a post before you publish it and you get a link with a tag in it. Everyone who comes through that link is credited to you, and the board ranks posts by how many people arrived and what they did next. Not by likes, because likes rank by follower count and that is the one thing we said would not be the qualification.

Apply

The last question is the one that matters. Tell us the thing you already tell people at parties.

What do you actually know about? Pick as many as are true.
We read every application and reply either way.

Not for you, but you run somewhere? Founding venues and submitting an event are the other two ways in.
